A CONTINENTAL market could become a regular fixture in Bolton after enjoying huge success over the weekend.

Organisers hope to transform Victoria Square into a European-style piazza on as many as three occasions next year.

Shoppers bought meats, cheese, chocolate normally only available across the Channel from last Thursday to Sunday.

Leatherware from Italy was also on sale along with jewellery from Paris.

Cathy Savage, Bolton Town Centre Manager, said: "We were so delighted that we want to bring it back next year, possibly two or three times.

"We were delighted with the way it went. There has been a lot of positive feedback. The traders themselves enjoyed it tremendously and have said they would love to come back next year."

But shoppers eager for another taste of Europe will only have to wait until December when a Christmas market will again bring European traders to the square.

The market, being held between December 9 and 12, will see 25 French traders set up stalls offering Christmas shoppers the chance to pick up presents with a continental twist.

Alongside them will be 20 English stalls selling hand-crafted goods.

And Victoria Square will again host a Santa's Grotto throughout December.
