VINTAGE railway posters designed by an artist who learned his trade in Bolton have fetched more than £800 at auction.
Tom Eckersley's posters went under the hammer at Christie's in London along with a huge collection of travel memorabilia. The top-selling poster by Eckersley - which advertised trips to Mablethorpe for British Railways - sold for £501. His 1948 poster titled "Central Line Extensions" was bought for £310. Eckersley, who was born in Lowton, near Leigh, was educated at Lords College, Manchester Road, Bolton.
He died seven years ago, aged 89.
