UKIP press officer Ian Upton has done me a favour by publicising my speech at the Labour Party Conference (October 8). What's more, I stand by every word. UKIP really are a ramshackle outfit.

Just look at their track record over the summer. First, they lose one of their MEPs before he could even take up his seat over allegations of benefit fraud. Then another comes out with the outrageous comment that a woman's sole purpose in life is to clean behind fridges.

Next, we have fallen TV idol, Robert Kilroy-Silk, unable to restrain himself from launching a bid for the UKIP leadership, triggering open warfare in the party. It may be his aim to "wreck" the EU, but at present he seems to be doing exactly that to UKIP.

Finally, just to prove how flaky UKIP really are, they manage to shoot themselves in the foot by alienating their main financial backer, Paul Sykes. That reportedly cost them a cool £1 million.

The mind simply boggles at what the next episode of this UKIP political soap opera will bring.
