TRAFFIC chaos looms this Bank Holiday Monday because 80 per cent of drivers set off without making any plans to travel at quieter times, according to research.

A survey by BMW dealer Williams said the lack of forward planning contributed to huge jams and busy roads.

But the other 20 per cent of drivers will spend much less time negotiating road works and in traffic jams than their counterparts who simply follow the crowd.

Alison Mulvey, of Williams, said: "Our survey reveals a fascinating type of motorist who plan well ahead and are very well informed about the routes they will take.

"The most feared routes in Greater Manchester are the A666 through Bolton and the M61."
