Steven Melia of Tomlinson Street, Horwich, came to the Evening News offices with this picture of the Rivington and Blackrod High School athletics team that year.
The school won the cup with a top performance at Harper Green.
If you look closely the small figure on the cup looks a little wonky.
"It was broken on the coach coming back and it had to be stuck on with Sellotape," Steven tells me.
