THE Wool Centre in Bolton had its five minutes of fame when it became the location for the video part of a new stage show.

Manchester-based comedy duo LipService chose the Soho Street shop as the ideal location for its next production and sent a film crew to Bolton to make the video.

The shop, which opened in 1985, became the set for a spoof show called Cheshire Vice, which is described by its creators as a comic cross between Prime Suspect and The Archers.

But Cheshire Vice will not be shown on television. Instead, it will be incorporated into a stage show about horror movies.

LipService was formed 20 years ago by Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding, who do all the writing, acting and directing for stage productions which are shown across the country.

They are often accompanied by other actors -- Octagon actor Darren Southworth will appear in Cheshire Vice.

Maggie said: "It's a bit confusing, but the production is about how to watch a horror movie.

"During it, we make a suggestion that one way to escape when it gets too much is to skip channels. At this point, we will play a clip of Cheshire Vice, as though we are skipping channels in the show.

"The scene is a robbery at a wool shop and we had been searching for a good wool shop for a while when one of our designers thought of this one. It was perfect."

Kath Slater, aged 52, who has owned The Wool Centre for six years, said: "It was brilliant. We had already seen the script, so knew what the story was about and it was quite exciting watching it come to life in the shop.

"I would like to go and watch the show to see how it looks in the final product."

Cheshire Vice will be seen at theatres throughout the country in the near future.

Another LipService production, Very Little Women -- a spoof of the Louisa M Alcott novel Little Women, is coming to the Octagon in September.
