MOTORISTS are facing road closures as a £4.1 million scheme to improve the M66 continues.

From Friday night, the M66 will be closed from the A56 at Edenfield to Junction 2 at Bury for three nights to allow resurfacing and bridge work to take place.

The carriageway will be closed between 9pm and 5am on Monday morning. Traffic will be diverted via the A58 and A56 from Heap Bridge to Edenfield.

The Highways Agency says the work, which started in January, will reduce traffic noise by half for nearby residents.
