CHILDREN at a Westhoughton primary school are celebrating after their creativity was honoured at their local carnival.

Washacre Primary School won the award for best children's float and best overall float at the Westhoughton Carnival, with their glittering multi-cultural float.

At the carnival, 24 pupils dressed up in outfits from different countries and the float was accompanied by Year Six girls dancing to music from across the globe. The youngsters wore national costumes, representing countries such as China, India and the Caribbean.

The float was organised by teaching assistant and governor Rachel Ash and Year Two teacher Alison Kenyon.

Miss Kenyon said: "I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped.

"We received a lot of donations from companies and charity shops."

A lot of parents, teachers and children came along on the day to show their support.
