THE executive director of Bolton's Warburton's Bakers said he was "surprised and delighted" to receive an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Ross Warburton, executive director of the family bakers, was awarded the honour for his services to the food industry.

Mr Warburton has held key roles within the industry for the last ten years as chairman of the Federation of Bakers and treasurer and deputy president of the Food and Drink Federation. He is also chairman of Richmond Foods Plc, the ice cream manufacturer, and Marlow Foods, makers of Quorn.

He said: "My involvement in the food industry has been interesting and varied, working both at a manufacturing level with Warburton's, and with industry bodies, such as the FDF, who carry out excellent work in helping to build consumer confidence in the food chain."

I'm surprised and delighted to receive such an honour.
