Hull KR 8 Leigh Centurions 35 by Mike Hulme: LEIGH Centurions leapfrogged back to the top of National League One after a comprehensive away victory over one of their major rivals.

Leigh put their recent indifferent performances behind them with a commanding 80 minutes.

And they did it for an hour without their talisman leader Tommy Martyn who limped off with a knee injury after just 20 minutes.

By the time of Martyn's departure, however, Leigh had already imposed themselves on the game and were ahead 14-2. Rovers drew first blood with a Scott Thorburn penalty but Leigh were quickly in front when Neil Turley, who went on to finish with 18 points, skipped through from close range to score a converted try.

A Turley penalty made it 8-2 and Leigh increased their lead just before Martyn hobbled off when Paul Rowley's long cut-out pass gave winger Rob Smyth the chance to scoot down the touchline for another try converted by Turley.

In Martyn's absence, Rowley, John Duffy and sub Willie Swann took on more midfield responsibility and by half time Leigh were well clear at 23-2.

Duffy sent second row Dan Potter through a gap and he beat Lyton Stott before going in for another six-pointer then a Turley penalty and Duffy drop goal virtually assured Leigh of maximum points.

Matt Strum, Turley and Steve Maden all went close to adding to Leigh's lead before Swann got his reward by forcing his way over at the corner. Another touchline conversion from Turley made it 29-2.

When a Hull defender spilled a Leigh kick, the Centurions worked a scrum base move for Swann to go under the posts for another converted try before a defensive mix-up allowed Hull to get six points back.
