THE longest day of the year has also produced the most complicated fixture conundrum yet as England prepare to face Croatia in their final Group B clash in Lisbon on Monday night (live on BBC-1, 7.45pm kick off).
This is the situation, looking at the bleakest possibility, then onwards and upwards to possible glory:
England will be coming home if they lose.
England will play Group A winners Portugal at Lisbon's Estadio da Luz on Thursday if they get at least a point against Croatia and France beat Switzerland.
England will play Group A runners-up Greece at Lisbon's Estadio Alvalade on Friday if they beat Croatia and France don't beat Switzerland, or England draw with Croatia and Switzerland beat France.
France will be going home if England win and they lose, or England draw and they lose to Switzerland by at least three goals.
