A COUPLE have been left devastated after a candle set fire to family treasures.
David Morlidge and his wife were alerted to the fire at their home in Chorley Old Road, Bolton, when the smoke alarm sounded at 10.30pm on Friday night.
They discovered that a candle burning in the study had set fire to some plastic cassettes and a box of slide photographs.
They extinguished the fire themselves with a damp cloth, but were unable to save the slides of family events through the years, including weddings.
Firefighters attended the scene, which was smoke-logged, as a safety precaution.
