BOWLERS Adir Nisar and Adam Street rescued Tonge just when it looked as though Little Lever would claim their first league win of the season on Saturday.

Lever were poised for victory when they needed just 33 runs from 12 overs -- with five wickets in hand -- to pass Tonge's score of 147 all out.

But Nisar and Street turned in a magnificent performance to skittle out Lever's last five batsmen for just 12 runs in a dramatic finish.

It was an agonising defeat for Lever, who stay bottom of the Bolton League after finishing on 127 all out and losing by 20 runs.

Mike Bennison and Peter Roach both scored unbeaten centuries as they starred in Walkden's rain-affected draw at Astley Bridge.

With captain Bennison on 103 and Roach on 100, title hopefuls Walkden declared on 220-0 with seven overs left in a bid to force a result.

Roach also took four catches as Dave Smith took 4-31 in the Astley Bridge reply, which was reduced to 42 overs because of rain. The home side clung on at 82-6, however, and Walkden had to settle for 12 points from a draw.

Walkden are still tucked in behind the top two, as Westhoughton and Greenmount slug it out for Bolton League supremacy.

Westhoughton notched a comfortable seven-wicket win over Eagley.

Mike O'Rourke had given Eagley hope with a magnificent 105 not out, a knock which frustrated the best bowling efforts of Westhoughton pro Antonio Mayers.

But the key to Westhoughton's winning response was a 125-run second-wicket partnership between Adam Coates (95) and captain Steve Parker (66). Greenmount stayed in contention despite a tough afternoon at home to Heaton. Nishit Shetty's 91 not out was the highlight of Greenmount's 226-4, but they could not bowl out the visitors, largely thanks to a gutsy 40 not out from Jonathan West, batting at number seven. Jonathan Fearick also hit 91 as Heaton finished on 209-5.

Elsewhere, Zander de Bruin took 4-40 and scored 76 not out as Kearsley beat Bradshaw by nine wickets, Gary Garner's 96 helped Egerton to a rain-affected draw against Farnworth, and Horwich won by five wickets at Farnworth Social Circle.
