Wanderers' trio of new signings have staked their claims for places in Saturday's big relegation showdown with West Brom.

Spaniard Salva Ballesta, who snubbed the Baggies before joining the Reebok ranks, and French duo Pierre-Yves Andre and Florent Laville, came through their first competitive action in the reserves on Thursday night to put their names in the frame for The Hawthorns clash.

Sam Allardyce, who admits he signed the trio unseen, watched from the stands at Chester's Deva Stadium as his new arrivals helped the Wanderers' second string beat Liverpool 2-1 with goals from Kevin Nolan and Nicky Hunt.

Ballesta played the first half, Andre was given a 54-minute runout and Laville played 84 minutes.

The trio also had in-house practice match on Tuesday.

Allardyce is refusing to say whether any will figure in the starting line-up but said: "They've all looked pretty good in training but seeing them in a competitive game gives me a better indication. It was a little too close to tomorrow's game for my liking but that couldn't be helped."

Long-term injury victims Paul Warhurst and Mike Whitlow are the only absentees from the squad.
