THERE was a determination at the Reebok as Wanderers set their sights on putting their home record to rights against Everton on Saturday.

Confidence is high following the show of character at Aston Villa, where they finished strongly when they could easily have buckled.

But the players know they need a positive result after losing successive home games to Southampton, Sunderland and Newcastle.

Goal star Michael Ricketts, who enhanced his reputation as the most potent uncapped striker in the Premiership with his double at Villa Park, typified the resolve when he said: "We've got something to bounce back from because we've lost a game and that is disappointing."

But the eight-goal top scorer cautioned: "Everton are going to be up for it too because they had a defeat on Saturday.

"It's going to be some game."

Wanderers have been anxious not to let their home record become an issue but it is clearly on their minds as they look to make the most of excellent away results against title contenders Leeds, Arsenal and Manchester United in addition to their victory over Liverpool - their last home success..

Skipper Gudni Bergsson insists spirits remain high. "I don't think we should feel too disheartened," he said after the Villa defeat.

"We went there to get at least a point but we didn't succeed.

"Now we have to focus on the next game and get back on the winning trail at home.

"There is confidence in the team and we showed that after we went 3-1 down and pushed them all the way. It was disappointing to lose but everything doesn't always go your way.

"We'll pick ourselves up and try to get the three points at the weekend."

With Jussi Jaaskelainen and Mike Whitlow available again after suspension and Paul Warhurst fit again after missing the Villa game with back and rib injuries, Sam Allardyce is expected to revert to what is widely regarded as his strongest defensive line-up against an Everton side stung by a 3-1 home defeat by Newcastle.

But Bergsson today echoed the manager's praise for the trio who stepped in at Villa Park.

"Both Steve Banks and Djibril Diawara did really well (at Villa) and Gareth (Farrelly) came in and did a very good job in midfield," the captain said.

"But we let in those three goals which is too much. We can't do that and expect to get points.

"We'll hopefully be a bit more tidy next game."
