A CONSULTANT surgeon demonstrated a new kind of tonsillectomy live on the internet today. Michael Timms, consultant ENT surgeon at Blackburn Royal Infirmary, performed the coblation technique on seven-year-old Jessica McNeal at 10am. The technique is less painful and faster than traditional methods. It uses salt water which is turned into a plasma that can cut through tissue.
