THE UK Independence Party, committed to withdrawing from the European Union, is making up ground on the main parties in the election for MEPs, according to an opinion poll.
The YouGov survey put UKIP on 14 per cent, just four points behind the Liberal Democrats, who are on 18 per cent.
The poll showed the Conservatives and Labour almost neck and neck, with the Conservatives on 28 per cent, one point ahead of Labour on 27 per cent.
The UK Independence Party party has 10 candidates in the North-west euro constituency for the June 10 election. Also standing along with the three mainstream parties are the English Democrats Party, the Green Party, British National Party and the anti-abortion group, Prolife.
The Liberal Party, the Countryside Party and the Left-wing Respect Coalition are have also put up candidates. Ronald Alan Neal is the only independent.
