A WOMAN suffering from breast cancer has raised around £1,000 by having her head shaved.

Susan Roberts, of Winster Drive, Breightmet, was cheered on by friends and family at the Moseley Arms, Red Lane, as she went from having short hair to having hardly any hair at all on Saturday.

The 49-year-old decided to take the plunge after being diagnosed with breast cancer in February at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

She said: "I went for a mammogram and was told they had found a lump.

"I went in on April 16 to have a mastectomy and my lymph nodes removed. I felt no pain and the staff were excellent with me. I was going to lose my hair anyway and I wanted to do something for the wonderful way in which I was treated."

Susan will now undergo six months of chemotherapy followed by six months of radiotherapy at the Royal Bolton Hospital and rather than wait for her to fall out under the treatment she decided to have it shaved off.

The money will go to the Bolton Breast Unit, ward S5 at the hospital.

Susan said: "I keep getting told I look like Demi Moore, which isn't so bad! The evening was just great and everyone had a fantastic time."

She wanted to thank Tracy, Mandy, Pam, Peter and Julie for their help in organising the event.

Her daughter's fiance David Jones was brave enough to take control of the razor as Susan was given a grade one haircut.
