WORK has begun on a new £200,000 community centre for Horwich residents.
The Brazley Residents Association is counting down until their much-needed centre is complete in July.
Funded by a Neighbourhood Renewal Fund grant, the centre is being built on to the side of the existing Spice Centre in Cedar Avenue, where the association is currently using a room on a temporary basis for their meetings and other activities.
It will comprise a main community room, small surgery room, toilets and a kitchen and will be run by a group of volunteers.
George Platt, chair of Brazley Residents Association, said: "It will be great for the residents to have their own space.
"It will mean they have somewhere to go, the kids have a venue for parties and the various community groups have a regular meeting place."
An official open day is due to be held in mid July.
