THE latest wave of Second World War veterans from the North-west have landed lottery funding which will see them return to where they saw D-Day action nearly 60 years ago.
The Heroes Return Scheme has paid for 98 veterans, widows and carers to make their way to the Normandy beaches.
Stephen Dunmore, chief executive of the New Opportunities fund, said: "Today this country has an opportunity through the Heroes Return programme to acknowledge the immense debt owed to those who sacrificed so much."
