I AM writing in reference to the Friday, May 21, edition of Bolton Evening News, and an article headlined "Bolton Institute may get a change of name".
We are delighted the Institute has the support of all political groups in Bolton - it is wonderful to have such strong backing.
We do acknowledge the importance and pride for the town in having a University and we will be working to position the town more strongly in the region.
However, the recent article in the Bolton Evening News featuring this welcomed support from our local council leaders has been rather misleading.
We are, of course, going to have a university title - that is not in any doubt. Before we can come to a decision as to what the title might be we have to undertake a far-reaching consultation among all our stakeholders, which include the people and organisations of Bolton.
However, we are obliged, as part of the Privy Council procedure, to seek the views of stakeholders who are regional, national and in some cases international.
We have many partnerships across the world and there is a need to be mindful of this and solicit all the views of this far-reaching network.
Our students and staff will also be consulted.
We have now set this process in motion to ensure that we meet all our legal requirements before proposing a title for approval by the Privy Council.
