A HAIRDRESSING business in Bolton is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Lock 'n' Roll has become part of the community in Bromley Cross since it opened its doors in 1994.
The business, in Turton Road, was set up by Ruth Lomax after she moved to the town with her partner, Eric.
The 37-year-old ran the shop on her own and has built up a loyal clientele.
Since then, she has taken on five staff and has just employed a new hairdresser, Karen Barnett, to join her team.
The mum-of-two has just achieved a PGCE in hairdressing and has been juggling running her shop for teaching students at Bolton College.
But Mrs Lomax is determined to help her business grow - amid competition fierce in Bromley Cross.
She said: "When I got together with Eric and moved to Bolton, I used to drive past an empty shop and I always fancied running my own business, so we bought those premises and Lock 'n' Roll was born.
"We worked very hard to get the shop ready with the help of friends and family. I have always been a hard worker and it has been great to build up a good customer base from scratch."
She paid tribute to the efforts of builder and late friend Frank Govan, who helped set up Lock 'n' Roll.
