A DOG was killed when it was thrown off a motorway bridge in Bury and was crushed under the wheels of a passing car.
The Golden Labrador's front and back paws and its jaws were taped up before it was tossed from the walkway over the M66 between Fern Grove and the Ramsbottom junction.
The dog was still alive in the south bound carriageway when it was hit by a Honda Civic at 10.25pm on Monday night.
The driver, a man from Cheetham Hill, lost control of the car and it ploughed into the hardshoulder. The motorist was taken to Fairfield General Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
Sergeant Chris Nealand from Greater Manchester Police's Motorway Unit said he was shocked by the incident.
He said: "I would urge anyone who knows the culprits to report them to the police immediately."
