TWO teenage thespians decided to do something a little different to raise money for a youth theatre in Bolton... sit in a bath full of baked beans.

Hannah Brazil and Katy Lowe, both aged 14, wanted to generate much-needed funds for the Phoenix Theatre and Keystone Haven, a charity for terminally ill children in Bolton.

Theatre bosses agreed to their brave idea and the Canon Slade students set out to write to supermarkets across Bolton to ask them to donate tins of baked beans. A string of supermarkets responded and sent tins of baked beans and mushy peas to the pair. And on Saturday the pair sat in a paddling pool for five hours outside the Bark Street based theatre and raised more than £100.

Craig Harris, from the Phoenix Theatre, said: "The girls are a couple of characters and they wanted to do something that was a bit off the wall.

"They came to us with the idea and we were taken aback, but said to them to get on with it."
