MOTORISTS who live in the Harwood and Bradshaw areas will be familiar with this stretch of road near Bradshaw Bridge.
In March, 1968, readers were told that improvement work to tackle traffic snarl-ups would be completed by the end of July. Work had originally been scheduled to end in March, but the job was extended after it was decided to demolish a row of buildings along the road and widen the carriageway even further. "It will add another nine feet to the road," said Turton engineer and surveyor Mr Reginald Dart. The cleared site resulting from demolition of the buildings can be seen in the right foreground of the picture.
