EXCELLENT weather conditions helped to get the fish on the move with match records being broken on two local waters.

Les Salmon broke Shore Top's record while fishing the Paul Woods Memorial Match. He beat John Turton's previous record by over 12 pounds.

He went for the bigger fish with a method feeder approach with a worm bait. Four decent carp obliged and turned the scales to 50lbs-11ozs.

Big fish man Steve Booth was also wise to the opportunities for good catches when he also tried the method with worm. His four carp gave him second place with 37lbs-12ozs. Simon Stott was third with a good bag of smaller fish (mainly skimmers) for 28lbs-12ozs. Trevor Bevins' all skimmer catch put him fourth spot with 15lbs-0ozs and fifth went to Peter Lee, whose single carp weighed 6lbs-13ozs.

The second record to go was in the Standard Scaffolding Monday Night Open on Bolton Canal when Mick Hargreaves found slab bream on the pole with caster, to record 30lbs-3ozs a wonderful weight for any of the traditional canals.

Paul Lomax was a long way behind in second place with bits on caster for 2lbs-12ozs, and third was Darren Nay with 2lbs-4ozs-13drs.

The match was the first of the Summer Series and will continue with a 5.30pm draw, with fishing from 6-15pm until 9-15. The first three qualify for the final which will be fished in late August. The bonus peg stands at £112.
