JOBSEEKERS in Bolton are set to benefit from a radical plan to personalise JobCentre Plus in the North-west.

The shake-up of New Deal will simplify employment programmes and remove bueareacracy, making them easier to follow and tailored to meet the needs of local labour markets.

It is hoped the scheme will help JobCentre Plus, which has offices in Bolton, Farnworth and Horwich, to meet the needs of jobseekers in the North-west, a region which has seen a 77 per cent fall in long-term unemployment since 1997.

The Chancellor said: "Employment has risen in every region in the UK - the North West is no exception, with an extra 174,000 people in work since 1997.

"Long-term youth unemployment has been virtually eradicated and long-term unemployment has been reduced by around three-quarters.

"But our aim is full employment in every community, and so we are setting out the next radical steps in our programme of reform.

"More choice, more devolution, more personalisation to extend and strengthen the New Deal."
