BOLTON RUFC's leading players and officials have arrived in Spain on their annual tour.

A party of 30 from Bolton have travelled to Valencia to play two matches against local teams.

The tour will see Bolton come up against former player Santiago Castro, who had a successful spell at the club before returning home to Spain.

Meanwhile, the club's remaining players grouped together to play for the thirds, who beat Marple 10-0.

Open rugby was impossible in strong winds, as the ball was constantly blown off course.

But full back Dave Hulme and centre Dave Meir tested the visitors with their powerful running.

The first try was an excellent score considering the conditions, as several players passed and supported and Phil Berry went round the last defender to score and give Bolton a half time lead, playing against the wind.

The second half was even more difficult as the wind increased and Lloyd Green and Paul Sutcliffe were constantly involved as Bolton's back row dominated.

Sutcliffe dived over to score Bolton's second try and win the game.

Bolton's fifths were overpowered by Clitheroe's seconds, who left with a 40-0 win.

There was plenty of effort from Bolton, though, as they went down to a side containing a good balance of experienced heads in crucial positions and youth to do the running.

Bolton's best players were Kevin McGill, who made some mazy runs, and scrum half Mickey Kay, who stood out in defence.

Training continues at the club on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm.
