Manchester League: ATHERTON Town's recent run of dismal form in the Manchester League continued with another defeat on Saturday.

Two goals from Paul Lamb secured a 2-0 win for visitors Wythenshawe Amateurs, who had been going through a similarly poor spell.

But there was better news for Leigh Athletic, who kept alive their outside chance of winning the title.

Gordon Walker's wind-assisted 30-yard strike inspired the Latics to a 1-0 win over Stockport Georgians.

But Prestwich Heys' championship hopes may have been blown away after they were beaten 2-1 by East Manchester at the Butchers Arms. Brandon Jolly's goal for Heys was not enough, as Simon Harrison and Darren Lyons ensured victory for the home side.

Carl Lomax was the coollest man on the field for Highfield United, as he converted two penalties to ensure a 2-0 win at New Mills.

Hindsford AFC survived a series of close shaves to win a place in the Murray Shield final. Opponents Old Alts missed a hatful of chances in Saturday's semi-final, before Dave Fashou scored the winner for the Tonics in the second half.

Hollinwood will be their opponents in the final. They also won 1-0, but they needed an extra-time Alan Parkinson goal to beat Wythenshawe Town.
