A WOMAN who was hit by a shop sign, blown off in Saturday's gale force winds, is to undergo an operation n her shattered leg.
Karen Booth was walking past Trade Exchange, Market Street, Farnworth, at 3pm on Saturday, when the eight metre wide shop sign flew off.
The sign also hit her husband Nigel and passer-by Darren Garstang, of Little Hulton, whose two-week-old baby narrowly missed being hit.
Mrs Booth, aged 38, a teacher at Bridgewater School, has broken her ankle and heel and her leg in several places.
She had a scan at the Royal Bolton Hospital yesterday to determine how many pins would be needed to hold the bone together in an operation to be performed today.
Mrs Booth, of Kearsley, said today: "I had only come out of another shop when it came down on us.
"It was awful. We have been really lucky. It's put me off going out when its really windy."
It is expected Mrs Booth will remain in hospital for two weeks.
