WANDERERS

4-3-2-1

JUSSI JAASKELAINEN ... 7

Kept his nerve and handled well under pressure; not overly busy though, thanks to some determined defending.

NICKY HUNT ... 7

His inexperience showed at times when he lost his composure, but he knuckled down and played his part well.

EMERSON THOME ... 7

Played with a lot of passion and seemed to enjoy being at the heart of the action.

BRUNO N'GOTTY ... 8

This was a night when Wanderers needed a calm customer at the back -- and Big Bruno delivered.

SIMON CHARLTON ... 6

Was left exposed too often for his own liking in the first half but soldiered on before feeling his hamstring again.

PER FRANDSEN ... 8

Ran himself into the ground to keep Wanderers ticking over in midfield; played a big part in securing the final place.

IVAN CAMPO ... 8

Constantly barracked by the Villa fans, who were clearly irritated by his influence on the game.

IBRAHIM BA ... 5

Off the pace in the first half and wasted too much possession when he came into it more in the second.

STELIOS ... 7

Caused the Villa defence a problem or two but got through a tremendous amount of work on the defensive side.

YOURI DJORKAEFF ... 7

Tried hard to stamp his class on the game but could not make it count where it mattered.

KEVIN DAVIES ... 7

Played like he meant business; didn't "bully" the Villa defenders this time but gave them a good run for their money.

Subs: Anthony Barness (6) for Charlton 68 mins, Henrik Pedersen for Djorkaeff 79 mins, Javi Moreno for Frandsen 88 mins. Not used: Ricardo Vaz Te, Kevin Poole.

Man of the Match

BRUNO N'GOTTY

WANDERERS needed a calm customer at the back last night -- and the big Frenchman did the job. He was oblivious to the needle, and refused to panic as Villa piled on the pressure, particularly in the second half.

Moan of the Match

VILLA felt they had a lot to moan about but an honest assessment of their various penalty appeals -- none of which impressed resolute referee Steve Bennett -- showed they did not have a case.

Magic Moment

THE relief when the final whistle sounded was clear for all to see -- on the faces of the exhausted Wanderers' players, on the faces of the manager and his sidekicks and on the faces of the 3,000 Bolton fans, whose nerves were in shreds.
