SO motorists are to be fined if their vehicles are parked too far away from the kerb, cyclists are to receive an instant fine for cycling on the pavements, other powers are to be introduced to deal with unsociable behaviour.

Am I to understand that motorists who park on the pavements, which as far as I am aware is still illegal, are also to receive the appropriate punishment?

It is certainly unsociable for the pedestrian, pram pusher or wheelchair user trying to negotiate the narrow space left for use. The pedestrian is forced to walk nearer garden walls and risk having eyes attacked by overhanging trees and shrubs.

Pity the poor cyclists who find a vehicle parked in a designated cycle lane. What do they do -- try cycling over the top of it?

These are just a few examples of unsociable and inconsiderate behaviour. Can something please be done about these? I am a walker, a cyclist and a motorist and have encountered all of these problems.

There is also the foul habit of depositing gum on pavements. Lever Edge Lane is a prime example. Couldn't Bolton Council get the school or college involved in an end of term clean-up project. Maybe if the offending pupils were made to do something, they would stop this filthy, unsociable habit.
