A 77-year-old devoted husband took his own life after struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife more than five years ago.
Cyril Westhead was found in a secluded car park in his fume-filled car by a policeman on patrol in February.
A Bolton inquest heard that Mr Westhead had left a note in the car which said that he was going to take his own life. He died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
The inquest heard that Mr Westhead, of Wilderswood Road, Horwich, had been to a funeral of a close friend a few days earlier.
His stepson, Michael Lane, told the inquest Mr Westhead had become very depressed after the funeral and had always struggled to come to terms with the loss of his wife Mary.
Coroner Jennifer Leeming recorded a verdict that Mr Westhead took his own life.
