THE saga of the HLKFC women at Horwich has a sequel. After establishing that the initials stood for Horwich Ladies Keep Fit Club (not Horwich Ladies Kentucky Fried Chickens) I have had a telephone call from 86-year-old Mrs Olive Hall (nee Boyes).
Olive, who lives in Bridge Street, Horwich, tells me that she was the founder and instructor at the classes which ran for several years from their inception in 1957.
She started the not-for-profit classes in the old Unitarian church in Church Street, Horwich, with the aid of a pianist.
Later the exercises were accompanied by records.
"It was the first keep fit club in Horwich," Olive says.
"We made our own uniforms."
She said there were 20 to 30 people involved and "they all enjoyed it."
