This 1923 picture was captioned: "Robert Wood was the inventor of the 'New Century Racing Plate (shoes for racehorses) which were manufactured by Robert Wood at his Newton Street works, off Halliwell Road.
"These plates were very popular with the racing fraternity for many years and the last known location of the firm was at the Atlas Mills complex on Mornington Road, Bolton."
