A CHARITY golf day held in aid of the Coronary Care Appeal saw the fund boosted by nearly £10,000.

Twenty-eight teams competed for the Tom Taylor Trophy at Bolton Golf Club on Chorley New Road. The competition was won by Blackburn-based Backhouse Jones Solicitors, with one team member shooting a 68, while Royal Bolton Hospital estate manager John Flannery took the individual award.

The competition raised £2,000 for the appeal and an auction added another £8,000. Among the items donated were golfing days at the Bolton Golf Club and a tray of bread from appeal manager and Warburtons director Brett Warburton.

As revealed in the Bolton Evening News last night the appeal has topped £1million with just £300,000 needed to pay for the new 10-bed heart care unit at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Appeal manager Jenny Walsh said: "It's been a brilliant weekend. Everyone enjoyed the golf so we're going to make it an annual event. The appeal total is so close now so we urge everyone to make that last big push."
