THE cream of Bolton's boxing talent will take to the ring this week in an action packed evening organised by the town's Lads' and Girls' club.

Fighters from as far afield as the Isle of Man will travel to Bolton to face the club's talent at the Albert Halls in the Boxing Bonanza event.

And organisers hope that WBU Welterweight champion Ricky Hatton will be take time out from his busy training schedule to cheer on Bolton's young fighters.

Twenty six fights are scheduled, with more than 50 boxers on the bill.

Bolton's finest amateurs Alex Matvianko, Gordon Robinson, Dave Court and Chris Eckersley will top the bill on the night, after training for the event for almost eight months. British Commonwealth team captain Stephen Bell will present trophies to the winning fighters.

The Boxing Bonanza show is being held to show off the talent developed by the Spa Road club.

It will take place this Thursday from 7pm. Admission is £6 for adults and £4 for under 16s and OAPs. For more details, call the club on 01204 540100.

Head of boxing at the club, and Amateur Boxing Association advanced England Coach John Hart said the standard for the event was high.

He said: "Becoming professional is a long-term goal for some of these lads, and in the shorter term we are looking to the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and the Olympics for 2008 and I dare say some kids from Bolton may be there.

"We have the quality and the best in facilities here, and we certainly have some lads who could do very well."
