IT is sometimes said that you cannot win a competition in the first few holes but you can lose it if you are not careful - and this was true in the Bullough Tankard at Turton.

Lee Studholme had a disastrous start when he double bogeyed the easy first hole and this proved decisive.

Both he and eventual winner, Dale Edginton, had excellent back nines in 37 (2 over par) but Dale's higher handicap meant that he ran out the winner on cards.

Martin Wareing, rejoining Turton after a gap of four years, should really have sewn this competition up but he dropped five shots at the finish.
