TENNIS ace Simon Roberts capped a fine Lancashire Championships for Bolton by taking the coveted men's singles title.

Roberts, playing on home turf at the Bolton Arena, beat Mark Ingham to get his hands on the top prize.

The Eagley and Holcombe Brook player then went on to take the mixed doubles crown alongside Elizabeth Thomas of Blackburn.

His success highlighted a tremendous title haul for Bolton, with no fewer than six winners and two runners-up medals being dished out to local talent.

Markland Hill's Phil Shacklady also tasted doubles glory in the veteran men's section, enjoying a winning partnership with Mark Connelly of Alkrington.

While youngster Jamie Whittle, of Eagley, joined forces with Sam Stuart to clinch the U14s boys title.

In the singles, Markland Hill's Bethany Coton saw off Beth Askew to take the U9s girls glory, while Matthew Allanson finished runner-up in the boys' section.

The Mini Tennis competition ended an all-Bolton affair, with Claire Bromley, Markland Hill, beating club-mate Eve Thomasson in the final.
