TV presenters Vernon Kay and Tess Daly tied the knot at St Mary's RC Church in Horwich yesterday as crowds of well wishing locals looked on.

Even the wedding car was white -- in the shape of a VW camper van, complete with balloons and a "Just Married" sign.

Locals began congregating outside the church on Chorley New Road at noon -- one man, determined not to miss such a rare sight in Horwich, moved out of his house into the front garden and continued having his hair dyed.

Another couple got a bird's eye view from the front bedroom of their terraced house, opposite the church gates.

Wedding guests arrived in two large coaches and Brian Dowling, Tess's co-presenter on SMTV Live and an usher on her big day, arrived to cheers from onlookers.

Vernon's co-presenter on T4, June Sarpong, waved and smiled as she walked into church.

Vernon's parents, Gladys and Norman, from Lostock, were among the first guests to arrive at what was obviously a low-key, family wedding.

Looking beautiful in a white trouser suit, Gladys told the Bolton Evening News: "It has been crazy, but everything's done now and we're looking forward to a great day."

Tess's parents, Sylvia and Vivian, from Stockport, also smiled and waved to the crowd.

Wearing a white suit by Alexandro on Saville Row and white shoes, Vernon, aged 29, arrived with his two best men -- his brother Steven and best friend Luke Downes, both also in white suits. All three posed for photographs on the steps.

Bride Tess arrived almost 25 minutes late, accompanied by two bridesmaids, her sister Karen Ballantyne and her best friend Orla O'Rourke -- Vernon's co-presenter on the Girls and Boys TV show.

Looking absolutely stunning in a white strapless gown by Marina Adanou, Jimmy Choo shoes and carrying a bunch of white roses, the bride joked as she stepped out of the car: "I'm really late."

After a quick wave to the crowd and a smile for the jostling photographers, she walked through the rose-decked archway and into the church, accompanied by the traditional wedding march, where the service was conducted by Father Henry Jones.

The gathered congregation, made up of mainly family and close friends, sang Give Me Joy In My Heart at the close of the service and the new Mr and Mrs Kay stepped out of the church and posed for the waiting photographers where Vernon gave the thumbs up and said: "We did it!"

Smiling broadly, he said: 'I feel great, absolutely over the moon."

Then the couple ran down the steps and jumped into the waiting white VW camper van before Vernon drove his new bride off to the reception at Rivington Barn.
