MENTAL health problems are now the leading cause of maternal death in the UK.

A recent study by psychologist Stephen Joseph indicates that one in 20 women suffer Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after childbirth. They suffer anxiety, "flashbacks", nightmares and avoid anything that reminds them of the birth. Some women are so badly affected that they seek abortions when they become pregnant again.

This disorder can frequently be prevented with more appropriate care.

We are a voluntary group doing a new survey of post natal post traumatic stress disorder. If you feel you have been badly affected by a traumatic birth within the last five years, please would you write to me at the address below or email Maureen@sycamoresbb-freeserve.co.uk

Briefly describe what you feel contributed to the trauma and what could have helped to prevent it.

The results will be fed back to the Commons All Party Group on the Maternity Services and the RCOG. Hopefully, your contribution will help save other women from having the kind of experience that you had.
