DAVE Townsend was the first Horwich RMI Harrier home in last Saturday's Rufford 10K, the latest Central Lancs Grand Prix race, finishing an excellent fifth.

He was closely followed by Andrew Neary only one place behind.

Steve Barlow (18th) and Albert Sunter (25th) completed the men's team that finished runners up on the day to Wigan Phoenix. Paul Murray was a terrific first M60 (48th).

Suzanne Budgett was the first Harrier lady in 63rd (second L40) and with Sarah Gorman and Jenny Abbott the ladies' team, like the men, finished runners up to Wigan Phoenix.

Steve Jackson finished 11th and first M40 in the Ben Nevis Race (10 miles, 4,400ft). This is the fifth time he has been first O/40 and this year he achieved it at the ripe old age of 49. Brian Walton and Ed Coope also completed this tough event.

Tony Hesketh was first M50 in the Clitheroe Triathlon completing the 500m swim, 20 mile cycle and 6 mile run event in 1.51.34.
