A FAMILY'S American dream is set to be featured in a documentary series about Brits carving new lives for themselves overseas.

Kay and Paul Kirby, and their children Matthew and Gemma, are planning to sell everything and swap Chew Moor, near Westhoughton, for Orlando, Florida.

They hope to buy a business such as a sandwich shop or ice cream parlour to take advantage of rules which will allow them to live in the United States if they invest £100,000 and employ two Americans. The family are currently in discussions with the makers of popular Channel Four TV show No Going Back about bringing their story to the small screen.

Although their move will take place too late for the third series, currently being filmed now, programme makers Ricochet Film say they are under consideration for the fourth.

Mrs Kirby, a clerical officer for Bolton Council's education and culture department, said: "It's so stressful in this country.

"We wanted to go somewhere where the place of life is a bit different, and of course the weather helps.

"We've been to Florida on holiday before and we loved it. For £87,000 over there you can buy a fully-furnished, four-bedroomed house with a swimming pool.

"We're moving for the lifestyle."

Paul, aged 36, Kay, aged 33, seven-year-old Matthew and Gemma, aged 14, are taking their German Shepherd Poppy and tortoiseshell cat Softie across the Atlantic with them.

But almost everything else is up for sale - from their four-bedroomed house at Bramble Croft, which they only bought a few months ago, and hope to sell fully-furnished -- to their Toyota Rav Four car.

Indeed their dream hinges on selling the home to raise the equity necessary to buy a business in the States.
