AN amateur dramatic society in Bolton today issued an urgent plea for the public to help them locate an unusual set of props for their latest production.

The problem is that the correct props would have to be around 64-years-old.

St Philips AODS, based at the Parochial Hall in Bridgeman Street, Bolton, requires a traditional nurse's bag, cape and hat dating back to 1939.

The society's latest play, Secondary Cause of Death, is due to open in under a week. The comedy, a spoof murder-mystery, is set in a country mansion in 1939 and is the sequel to the society's successful production last year, Murdered to Death. The uniform is needed for a key character. Director Sharron Knott, aged 43, of Highfield Road, Farnworth, said: "We have tried local theatrical costumiers but no one has exactly the right period.

"It is a very strange request but I like to be authentic as I can be."

We have managed to get everything else, apart from these few bits and pieces.

"People might know someone who used to be a nurse at the time or a relation. The nurse needs the correct costume. It will really be the icing on the cake if we can get it."

The play opens on Wednesday, September 17 for four nights. Tickets cost £4 for adults with £3 concessions. The costume would be needed for a rehearsal next Monday.
