WESTHOUGHTON residents are celebrating after winning a three year battle to put the brake on rat run motorists.
Homeowners on Holden Lea and Bamber Croft in Wingates are delighted no entry signs have been installed after years of delay.
The signs were erected last month but highways bosses were forced to cover them up after it was found they did not have permission from the police for the signs.
Residents lobbied councillors after impatient motorists made their road a shortcut to avoid traffic lights at the top of Church Street, at the junction with the A6 Manchester Road.
Marjorie McTaggart, a resident of The Croft, off Bamber Croft, said: "We're delighted that this has finally happened. It makes the street a lot safer and quieter for all the residents."
