Pigs bacon saved

From the Evening News, August 6, 1993: ANIMAL-lovers are celebrating after councillors voted to save the bacon of half a dozen pigs in a popular animal sanctuary. Supporters packed a meeting at Bolton Town Hall to back the sanctuary, originally set up as a rescue for pot bellied pigs and destitute ponies.

Supporters started clapping and cheering when councillors on the planning committee said owner Mavis Harrison could stay in temporary accommodation at the Maple Stump smallholding in Prestolee Road, Kearsley. But they added she could only live on the green belt patch as long as she runs the animal sanctuary.
