I write in response to Richard Hudson's letter (April 23). I fully support the headteacher of the school with her action in excluding the pupil with the mohican haircut.

All schools, particularly secondary schools, have codes of conduct for pupils to comply with. Following such a code is a basic lesson which every human being must learn.

To bend rules, even slightly, is the thin end of the wedge for schools, and would in turn lead to a downward spiral in school discipline.

What would follow next? . . . different uniform, ear piercing, tattoos etc, etc.

Next, a moot point, but the names of artists, scientists and philosophers listed by Mr Hudson, were famous when they had attained adulthood and old enough to make their own decisions.

I bet all of them had 'suitable' hair cuts when they were younger.

Finally, the Human Rights Act applies to us all, including those who wish to enjoy a peaceful life in an orderly society, and not to the minority who wish to turn the Act on its head to their misplaced advantage.
