A TEENAGER helped to rescue a family of four after smoke from a pan fire filled their home in Leigh.
Jonathan Pack, aged 14, noticed smoke pouring from the ground floor of the house. He dashed to alert his neighbours who called the fire brigade.
A crew from Farnworth went to East Avenue, Leigh, shortly after 9.10pm on Thursday. They entered the home to see Zhara Withington semi-conscious on the living room sofa.
After rescuing her and her daughter, Withington Taylor, firefighters dashed upstairs to alert Miss Withington's partner, Christopher Taylor, who was asleep in bed with his daughter, 13-month-old, Daya.
They then tackled the pan fire wearing breathing apparatus.
Leading fireman Geoff Sidlow said: "We can't praise Jonathan enough. He did a great job and potentially saved this family's lives."
The smoke alarm did not have any batteries in it. Mr Sidlow said: "We urge everyone with a smoke alarm to ensure it is operating properly."
