MEMBERS of Radcliffe Athletics Club were pleased as punch and not a little impressed by the performances of three of their juniors in the English Fell Championships.

Lindsay Agg, Dawn Warriner and Rebecca Howard entered the Erkin Hill Races, run in conjunction with the Wrekin Fell Race, and all three achieved placings of 11th or better, no mean feat in championship races.

The junior races went up the 416 feet of climb that is Ercall Hill, and anyone with an ambition to do well had to make a swift start to get good position over the narrow bridge at the foot of the climb.

Dawn Warriner picked off a lot of competitors on the climb, completing the two-mile run in exactly 15 minutes to take fifth place, a terrific time for an under-14, even without the hill.

Rebecca Howard chased hard, claiming 11th place, still a great performance in that quality of race.

Lindsay Agg, fresh from receiving her award as Bury Sportswoman of the Year, was in the three miles race for under-16s. After a steady start, she picked off runner after runner, careering down the final slope and over the sports field like a girl possessed, to claim seventh place in 23.35.

Coaches Arthur Warren and John Agg were delighted with the progress made by their charges, who have trained well and improved all winter.
