BROADCASTING legend Alistair Cooke has been honoured by the UK radio industry as one of the first batch of people in its new hall of fame.

The 94-year-old Salford-born journalist, who attended Blackpool Grammar School, is believed to be the oldest regular voice on UK radio.

His Letter From America, currently on Radio Four, has been running since 1946. Other North-west-born broadcasters honoured include journalist Brian Redhead and DJ Kenny Everett.
